Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for your new website

So you’ve got a spanking new website. You’ve heard so much about SEO and how if your website ranks on the first page of Google you’ll be getting loads of exposure. Well yes, this is true, but SEO is a long and tedious process. Do not believe it when someone tells you that they can get you on the first page of Google in an instant. Let us touch on the first few points that you should know to start getting your website to rank on Google.

1) Establish external links

This is by far the most critical link you should be doing to let Google know about your website. Google works by following links. They find your site by following a link from an external site. Once a link is established and the site is indexed, it will start to show on Google.

2) Check your settings

After your first external link, you should be able to find your website on Google. If it does not show up, maybe the settings of your site are not done correctly. During development, developers tend to tell Google not to index the site or block the site from being crawled. Make sure that these settings are turned off.

3) Pick the right keywords

You want your website to be ranking for the right keywords. You should be doing some research on which are the keywords which are most often searched for and target your particular niche. Your website should be telling Google what you want to rank for. For example, if you have a page that says “How to get high scores for your SAT exams”, you really do not want to be ranking for “How to get high”. You can help Google learn more about your website by telling them what your site is about.

4) Input content regularly

This aspect is extremely important. The more relevant content you insert into your website, the better it will rank on Google. Google loves sites that keep up to date and relevant. This is why good blogs rank highly on Google! Great content will be shared and external links will be established. Google views an external link like a positive vote for that particular page.

5) Ensure relevant titles and meta description

These are the snippets that appear on Google search results. They have to be engaging and entice users to click on them. Consider using things like rich snippets if you are a review site. That will help to insert your review results on Google search results. What will happen is that your search result will show the ratings for that page and display them in the form of stars in the results. These are just a few methods to try to get your search results to stand out.

Ensuring that your site ranks highly on Google search results will greatly reduce your advertisement cost for whatever niche you are in. So remember to set off on the right foot for your business by following these pointers!

Yours Sincerely,
